YAAC TALK N°3 : African Youth, Climate & Migration

YAAC Talk · Edition 3 African Youth:endure the climateor transform it? At the third YAAC Talk, committed voices came together to answer one of the most pressing questions of our generation. Date February 21, 2025 Format Panel Discussion Theme Climate & Migration Background Leaving your land. Abandoning your roots. Departing — not by choice, but out of necessity. This is the daily reality for thousands of young Africans, driven by a climate crisis that is reshaping territories, economies, and identities across the continent. It was precisely this reality that YAAC Talk 3 set out to address on February 21st. Through an engaged panel discussion, the event brought together field actors, researchers, and young leaders to confront a fundamental question: « Is African youth condemned to endure climate crises… or capable of turning them into opportunities for action? » The collective answer was unequivocal: young people are not the problem — they are the solution. And the tools already exist. Local solutions, rooted in African knowledge systems and driven by agroecological innovation, are emerging across the continent. Topics covered 🌱 Agroecology Sustainable farming practices adapted to local African realities 🌍 Climate migration Understanding forced displacement driven by environmental crises 💡 Local solutions Innovations built by and for African communities 🤝 Youth leadership Engagement and ownership by the next generation of changemakers Throughout the discussion, speakers emphasized that resilience is not a passive stance. It demands deliberate choices: investing in agroecology over imported and ill-adapted models, strengthening local capacities, and — above all — believing that Africa’s future need not be a flight, but a construction. YAAC Talk 3 is part of an ongoing series of gatherings designed to fuel the thinking and action of young Africans committed to climate and social transitions. Each edition is a space for dialogue, shared experience, and the collective building of real solutions.
